What is Adlyxin (Lixisenatide) Pen 50 mcg/ml?
Adlyxin is a prescription medication containing lixisenatide, which is part of a class of drugs called glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists. Adlyxin Pen 50mcg/ml is an injectable form of antidiabetic medication meant for subcutaneous use. Adlyxin pens are supplied as one disposable 3ml pen for injection per package at a concentration of 50mcg/ml.
What is it used for?
Adlyxin is used for adult patients who are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus as treatment together with exercise and diet for better blood sugar control. The Adlyxin pen can be used with pen needles from Becton Dickinson, Ypsomed, and Owen Mumford that are 8mm long or shorter, since pen needles are not included with the purchase. It can also be used with oral antidiabetic medications (e.g. sulfonylurea) and other insulins to optimally control blood sugar levels; however, a dose reduction may be required when used as a combination treatment.
Why use Adlyxin?
Adlyxin slows the rate of food leaving the stomach into the intestines amongst its other actions, working synergistically to lower blood sugar levels with a convenient once daily injection. It is recommended to take this medication 60 minutes before the first meal of the day, at the same time each day, so patients can easily remember.
In all the studies that examined the efficacy of Adlyxin, it was found that Adlyxin produced meaningful reductions in HbA1C compared to a placebo. The difference in HbA1C change compared to the placebo was between 0.46 to 0.65%. There was also a significant difference in the reduction of fasting sugar control by as much as 9.63mg/dL compared to placebo.
