What is an Adlyxin (Lixisenatide ) Pen 100 mcg/mL?
The active component in Adlyxin is lixisenatide which is a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist. It is injected subcutaneously to control blood sugar levels.
What is it used for?
Adlyxin is used by adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as an additional treatment therapy to exercise and diet for better control over blood sugar levels.
Why use Lixisenatide?
Adlyxin is one the few medications capable of slowing the transit time from stomach to intestines to help reduce blood sugar levels. This also works hand in hand with its other actions to help achieve a meaningful reduction in blood sugar levels with a convenient once daily dose. Furthermore, patients can also develop a mindful habit as daily dosing is required at 60 minutes before the first meal of the day.
What comes in the box?
Adlyxin pens are supplied as one disposable 3 mL Adlyxin pen at a concentration of 100 mcg/mL per package.
Does this medication complement other products?
Since they are not supplied with pen needles, pen needles from Becton Dickinson, Ypsomed and Owen Mumford that are 8 mm long or shorter should be used. Sulfonylureas and insulin may need a dose reduction if used in combination with Adlyxin as there is a higher risk of hypoglycemia.
Why use Adlyxin over other products?
Multiple studies have conclusively shown Adlyxin to be effective in reducing both HbA1C and fasting sugar levels. HbA1C levels reduced by about 0.46 to 0.65% when Adlyxin were used as standalone treatment or in combination with other common antidiabetic medications and compared to placebo. Similarly, fasting sugar levels reduced by about 9.6 mg/dL compared to placebo. In other words, Adlyxin joins the list of medications that are well-studied and effective medications to reduce blood sugar levels.
